The pre appointment checks and the consultation were both excellent, however my appointment was nearly 2 hours late.
Waited 14hrs but still didn’t get to see the doctor.i got even more ill.
Excellent
I arrived to A&E at 5pm on Friday and wasn’t seen by a Doctor until 9am on Saturday.
I have sickle fell and was having an acute sickle cell crisis. I told staff from the very beginning that I should ideally be given treatment within 30 minutes but was not treated as a priority patient. I had to ask multiple times for medicine and for what the plan was - I had to be proactive and ask for medication every couple of hours rather than the team actively treating me. When I was seen by the Dr at 9am, I was advised that I would be moved to a ward but by 12pm I still hadn’t been moved and was not receiving medication? When I was eventually moved, (after asking the nurse in charge for an update) there seemed to be no urgency to actually start treatment and I asked not once or twice for medicine but nurses just seemed to be going up and down. I finally received medicine at 1:13pm after asking if the plan was for me to die in the hospital. Absolutely terrible experience. Nobody takes responsibility.
Also why did a HCA try to take my temperature with no protective cap on top of the swab? The swab had only been cleaned with a disinfectant wipe? I expressed shock and so she put it underarm. And then proceeded to the next patient and tried to put it in her mouth? I couldn’t believe it.
I would never come back to this A&E.
On arrival the receptionist directed to the wrong place which led to a delay in a nurse carrying out the pre appointment tests.
Dr Johns was excellent. He listened to me and explained everything well. I felt that I was in safe hands.
It was a fantastic service catered by amazing staff. Thankyou
Everything was great when I got seen, but for every appointment I was told I would get, I had to ring up to half a dozen times to actually be given a time. Apart from my very first appointment which was sent to me, I arranged all the others. I am unable to give a service anything but poor where doctors have no idea of what’s going on in reality. They say “I want to see you in two weeks, you’ll be sent an appointment.” You aren’t, and if I hadn’t rung myself I wouldn’t have been seen ever again. I just feel for the patients who aren’t in a position to ‘hustle’ - it’s hard work and not possible for all.
Surgeon very Informative about my condition; and Courteous throughout. And although my condition had improved at time of visit, he gave me avenue for re-referral if severe sustained relapse.
Other staff at hospital also very good
My mum was on the ward without the offer or help of having a wash for 4 DAYS..
There was a delay in her discharge as the pharmacist had to sort out the change in dose of her medication, but when she was discharged the following day, she was only discharged with vitamins and morphine and not any of the amended doses of her regular medication ( some 7-8 meds) and wasnt allowed to take her blister pack with all her regular medication , they said because they had changed the dose, but this meant she had NONE of her medication.
The decline of care is upsetting and unacceptable.
Saw no staff handwashing between touching different patients
My appointment went ahead at the expected time and was completed promptly.
